THE SACRED

THRESHOLD

I have given birth three times — at home, on purpose, in my own space, surrounded by the people I trusted most. I know what it is to feel your body do something ancient and terrifying and holy. I know the way labor strips everything down to the most elemental version of yourself. I know the strange silence right after — when the world has completely rearranged itself and nobody has told you yet how to live in it.

I also know what happens when that transition doesn't get held.

In over a decade of being a licensed marriage and family therapist, I have sat with people on every side of the birth experience — women navigating the grief of who they were before, the weight of expectations they never agreed to carry, the shock of an identity that no longer fits. I have watched clients walk into postpartum feeling like they failed something they never fully understood. I have witnessed the silence that gets mistaken for fine.

Birth is not just a physical event. It is a psychological and spiritual passage. And the space around it — the weeks of sacred preparation, the labor, the delivery, the fourth trimester — is some of the most underserved emotional territory there is.

What I see again and again is this: we prepare for the baby and forget to prepare for the mama.

We talk about birth plans and forget to talk about identity grief. We talk about feeding schedules and forget to talk about the fear that lives underneath the excitement. We talk about what your body will do and forget to talk about who you are becoming in the process. We celebrate the baby shower and skip right over the mourning of the self — the loss of your old life, the pressure of community expectations, the impossible standard of doing this perfectly while also being perfectly fine.

The overwhelm is real. The fear is real. The grief is real. And it belongs here.

Whether you are pregnant for the first time or stepping into your third or fourth becoming, whether you are deep in prenatal preparation or navigating the tender chaos of postpartum — this space is for you. This is where we make room for the whole thing: the wonder and the terror, the love and the loss, the strength and the falling apart.

Because both can be true.

I am not your doula. I am not your midwife. I am a therapist, a mother of three, and someone who believes with everything in her that being held through this transition changes everything — for you, and for every person your new self will touch.

This is The Sacred Threshold. Come in.
